Revision Rhinoplasty

What is Revision Rhinoplasty?

Revision rhinoplasty refers to a corrective surgery to address structural or aesthetic issues following a previous rhinoplasty procedure or due to undesired changes or trauma over time.

Even the most experienced surgeons may need to do a revisionary surgery in 5-15% of cases following rhinoplasty procedures. Revision may involve minor contour or position adjustments or be a comprehensive surgery targeting significant structural problems. Cases with significant tissue or support loss require more complex techniques and experience than untouched noses. Besides cosmetic concerns, there may also be serious breathing difficulties in revision cases. Revision rhinoplasty aims to correct nasal function and reconstruct the aesthetic appearance. Live tissue healing is a dynamic process that can respond differently and change over time. It may sometimes progress differently than predicted or desired. Surgical interventions involve a response, adaptation, and change process during the healing period. This change continues in the long term. Therefore, surgical techniques should be applied considering the potential response of time and tissue without compromising the principle of achieving a natural appearance and considering the expected long-term outcomes.

The healing process after nasal aesthetic surgery generally takes 6 months to 1 year to complete the final shape of the nose, depending on the nature of the surgical intervention. However, the resolution of changes in the nasal skin may take even longer. Therefore, waiting for at least one to one and a half years is generally recommended before considering a second surgery.
